The Ontario Police College (OPC) is part of the Public Safety Training Division within the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. The ministry is committed to training modernization and collaboration among public safety practitioners. Bruce Herridge was appointed as the Director of the OPC on January 2, 2014, to assist in steering the College through the growth and innovation opportunities.
Bruce brings to this role recognized expertise in police policy, practice and training gained through his 40-year policing career. He is a collaborative and transformational leader who believes that education, technology, and the ability to link learning and practice through constant vigilance and continuous learning is key to ensuring the delivery of the highest standard of policing services.
Bruce’s commitment to learning and training has been central to his career. As a long-standing member of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, he served as Vice-President of the Board of Directors for the past three years and was previously the Chair of both the Information and Technology Committee and the Training and Education Committee. Most notably, Bruce has been an advocate of e-learning within policing since 2001. Since that time, he has been actively engaged in leadership roles promoting a collaborative, sector-wide approach to police training and continues to share strong ties with the Canadian Police Knowledge Network, an organization that is known nationally for delivering technology-enhanced learning across the country.
Bruce holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Criminology from the University of Toronto. His exceptional service throughout his career has received official acknowledgement. He has been awarded the Governor General of Canada’s Police Exemplary Service Medal, the 30-year bar and the 40-year bar.
