Office of the Fire Marshal concludes investigation at Queen St. West
TORONTO (December 30, 2008) - After a thorough investigation, the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) is unable to determine the cause of the fire that destroyed six buildings on Queen Street West, Toronto on February 20, 2008.
The OFM investigative team has verified that the fire, which consumed several businesses and residences, originated on the main floor of 615 and 617 Queen Street West.
“The investigative protocols require the credible consideration and elimination of all potential ignition sources,” said Chris Williams, OFM Fire Investigations Manager, “Unfortunately, the extent of the damage prevented us from identifying the cause and the fire has been classified as undetermined.”
The OFM fire investigation team of 10 included; fire investigators, fire protection engineers and fire investigation supervisors and coordinators.
The team worked closely with Toronto Fire Services, Toronto Police Services, Toronto Public Works, City of Toronto officials as well as several provincial agencies during the course of this demanding investigation.
