Safety Alert for Immediate Release |
Toronto, July 28, 2005 – The Office of
the Fire Marshal (OFM), together with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA),
are once again urging Ontario residents who have purchased an LG refrigerator in
the past 12 months to check their refrigerator model and serial numbers. A
malfunctioning component in certain LG refrigerator models has proven to pose a
fire hazard to consumers. This component must be repaired to ensure the safe
operation of the refrigerators. To date, in Ontario four fires originating in
two-door LG-branded refrigerators have been reported to and confirmed by the
OFM.
Owners of the LG refrigerator models identified below should immediately unplug
their appliance and contact LG Canada at 1-866-595-4387 to schedule a free
in-home repair.
Affected Refrigerator Models:
LG-branded refrigerators manufactured between May 2004 and October 2004 and sold
in Canada between June 2004 and April 2005.
Model Numbers:
| GR-729RN | LRTX 18311WW | |
|
|
LRTN 18320WW | LRTX 18321BK/TT/WW |
Affected models include those with serial numbers beginning
with 405, 406, 407, 408, 409 and 410.
The extent of hazard posed by the three-door model refrigerators identified
in a July 15th
news release issued by the Office of the Fire Marshal, is still under
review.
Customers with a refrigerator affected by this notice or with questions are
strongly encouraged to contact LG by phone at 1-866-595-4387 or by email at
retrofit@lge.com.
The public is reminded to install a working smoke alarm on every level of
their home and outside all sleeping areas. Working smoke alarms provide
early detection of fire and can give people the precious seconds needed to
escape.
