Safety Alert for Immediate Release |
Toronto, ON – Subsequent to news releases issued on July 15 and July 28, 2005, the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM), the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), and LG Canada are once again urging Ontario residents who purchased an LG refrigerator to check their refrigerator model and serial numbers.
In addition to the 2-door top mount models identified in the July 28, 2005 news release, certain 3-door (French door) bottom mount models of LG refrigerators also pose a fire hazard to consumers and must be repaired. The malfunctioning component identified in the LG 2-door refrigerator models, which caused four fires in Ontario, is also used in the 3-door models identified below. The OFM, ESA and LG Canada have been made aware of 1 fire incident in Alberta involving a 3-door model. LG Electronics in the U.S. has also received 82 reports of incidents involving these models, some of which have resulted in smoke damage.
