BERNARD A. MOYLE PUBLIC EDUCATION AWARD
The Executive Board of Directors of the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety
Council (Council) has established the Bernard A. Moyle Public Education Award,
an annual award to honour an organization that has introduced and implemented a
fire and life safety program or campaign in their community.
This award will be presented annually, as a tribute to retired Fire Marshal
Bernard A. Moyle, in recognition of his 16 outstanding years of service as Fire
Marshal of Ontario, from 1990 to 2006. During his tenure, Bernard Moyle used his
extraordinary leadership skills to implement his vision, thereby enabling the
province to make great strides in fire and life safety education. His
professionalism, dedication and enthusiasm have helped to shape Ontario into a
world leader in public fire safety.
The award is funded by the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council.
Presentation of the award will be made at the annual Public Fire and Life Safety
Educators’ Conference.
The winner of the award will receive:
- a commemorative plaque
- a credit note for $5,000 in support of the fire and life safety education
program(s) or campaign(s), to be used to purchase products from the Fire
Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council’s Distribution Centre.
In addition, travel expenses to attend the annual Public and Fire Life Safety
Educators Conference will be paid by the Council for a representative of the
winning organization. Expenses covered are accommodations, meals, and mileage
(restrictions may apply). Travel claims must be submitted.
The Bernard A. Moyle Public Education Award Committee will review the
applications, select finalists and choose the winning organization at the fall
meeting of the Fall Executive Committee of the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety
Council’s Executive Board. The winner will be announced at the Fire Marshal’s
Public Fire Safety Council’s fall general meeting and on the Fire Marshal’s
Public Fire Safety Council’s Web site.
To apply for the award, applicants must complete the attached form and satisfy
the following requirements:
- The applicant must provide an outline of the community-wide fire and life
safety program(s) or campaign(s) that has/have been implemented over the past
thirty-six (36) months, including clearly stated goals and objectives,
timelines, resources, etc.
- The fire and life safety education program(s) or campaign(s) must have been
aimed at a target group, such as children, adults, older adults or other special
group.
- The applicant must have demonstrated a commitment to the implementation of the
fire and life safety campaign(s) or program(s) over the past 12-36 months within
their community in Ontario.
- The applicant must provide a description of the efforts and accomplishments of
the fire and life safety program(s) or campaign(s) over the past thirty-six (36)
months.
- The applicant must provide a description of the effectiveness of the fire and
life safety program(s) or campaign(s).
For every year, applications must be received by September 1st.
