In 1997, the then Ministry of the Solicitor General and Correctional Services created the Public Safety Officers' Survivors Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships for spouses and children of public safety officers killed in the line of duty. In 2002, the fund was renamed Constable Joe MacDonald Public Safety Officers' Survivors Scholarship Fund, in honour of Constable Joseph MacDonald of the Sudbury Police Service, who was shot in the line of duty in 1993.
The purpose of the present communiqué is to remind you of the availability of the scholarship and to give details on the application process. Please note that the deadline for submitting an application this year is June 11, 2009. An application form and application guidelines, in English and in French, are enclosed.
