MEDIA MONITORING OF FIRE AND EMERGENCY INCIDENTS IN ONTARIO
(External Distribution)
The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) is pleased to introduce a weekly media
monitoring service called Fire News. This service aims to provide fire
departments with articles from various regional and major newspapers on fire and
emergency incidents in Ontario and Canada.
Fire News will allow the fire service throughout Ontario to view news articles
online. Making articles available online will allow the fire service to see the
types of fire and emergency incidents that are occurring throughout the province
and in the rest of Canada. By having access to this type of information, it is
hoped that fire service leaders will network with each other to discuss the
incidents and share valuable lessons learned from responding to and dealing with
fire and emergency situations.
Fire News Coverage will include articles on:
- Arson and fire investigation
- Fire incidents - residential, commercial, industrial
- Fire code violation
- Fire fatalities
- Public fire safety education
- Home fire safety
- Rescues
- Hazardous materials incidents
- Fire safety building and engineering design
- Disaster and emergency planning
- Firefighter health and safety
Fire News will be posted on the OFM Web site. The Web site can be found at
www.ofm.gov.on.ca under the “Resources” heading. Click on the link
“Fire News”.
The Fire Sciences Library & Audio Visual Resource Centre at the OFM encourages
the fire service to contact them with online articles from their local newspaper
or municipal website that they would like posted to Fire News.
To receive further information about the media monitoring service, please
