The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) is pleased to announce that amendments to Part 4, "Flammable and Combustible Liquids", of the Ontario Fire Code have been filed as O. Reg 475/00 on August 21, 2000 and are effective as of this same date. An unofficial copy of the amendment package is attached. It is also available on the OFM web site at www.ofm.gov.on.ca/legreg/part4amm.htm. The official version will appear in the Ontario Gazette on September 9, 2000. Commentary and guidelines are being finalized and will be released in the near future.
In response to stakeholders' concerns, the OFM established the Part 4 Implementation Committee in July 1999, which consisted of representatives from 20 organizations. The Committee's recommendations are being implemented by means of amendments to the Fire Code, commentary, and other harmonization and streamlining initiatives.

The amendment package also includes 15 editorial changes.
The OFM requests that the fire service provide appropriate assistance and guidance to owners affected by the amendments to enable them to achieve compliance. This will further contribute to enhancing overall public fire safety in the community.
