VOLUNTARY PRODUCT RECALL: PORTABLE BASEBOARD HEATERS

(External Distribution)

The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) has been informed that some portable baseboard heaters manufactured under the brand name "Duracraft" in 1995, and sold from September 1995 through March 1996, may pose a potential fire hazard. The heater affected is model CZ-520 Space Saver™. The manufacturer has advised that the fan of the heater could become stuck, causing it to overheat. They have received a number of reports of these heaters overheating, catching on fire or producing smoke. The manufacturer has initiated a voluntary product recall and has advised that consumers should stop using these heaters immediately even if they seem to be functioning properly.

The model CZ-520 baseboard heater has a white thermoplastic exterior housing, with a black steel grill. There are two heating control knobs, a power switch and a regulating thermostat, on the right side. The heater measures 22 inches long, 6 inches wide and 4¼ inches high. It tilts to various angles on its hinged stand. The word "Duracraft" is written in gray on the top, right side of the unit. The model number, CZ-520, is located under the words "Made in China" on a silver sticker on the bottom of the heater. Only date codes that begin with "95" are involved in this recall. The date code can be found on a small white sticker on the bottom of the heater with "DATE" written on it.
