The Terrorism/Hazardous Materials Awareness for
First Responders in Ontario: Self-Study was revised in 2006 to
reflect current policy, practice and to include updated resources such as
the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG 2004).
This course was initially developed in response to ongoing concerns for
public safety as a result of hazardous materials incidents and potential
threats and acts of terrorism. Revisions were made in consultation with
multi-agency stakeholders.
This updated course meets NFPA 472, Standard for
Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents (2002
Edition) and specifies competencies for first responders who respond
to hazardous materials incidents at the awareness level. Although this
course was designed for multi-agency first responders (from fire, police,
ambulance/emergency health and other first response agencies) all those
interested in public safety may take it.
Participants who complete this course
and submit the required application in the appendix will receive a
certificate from the Ontario Fire College.
