Information Sessions

The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) is available to deliver information sessions covering the fire safety requirements for hotels/motels in the Fire Code upon request. Industry associations and fire services are encouraged to work together to organize regional sessions that are open to all operators. The host group is responsible for arranging the venue, guest registration, fees to cover costs (e.g. refreshments), etc.

Two programs are currently available:

  1. “Hotel Fire Safety Requirements in the Fire Code – An Overview” (1 hr)
This session provides an overview of the new regulation, including a brief review of the history of fire safety regulations for hotels, the impact of the consolidation of hotel fire safety requirements into the Fire Code, the application of Section 9.9 Hotels, and the compliance schedule for retrofit requirements. A brief introduction to the OFM website for hotels and the audit guideline developed by the OFM is included.

  2. “Hotel Fire Safety Requirements in the Fire Code – Comprehensive Session” (full day)
This session includes the above overview plus a comprehensive review of the hotel requirements in all parts of the Fire Code, including a detailed discussion on retrofit requirements in Section 9.9 Hotels. Please click here to view a typical agenda for this session (Agenda).
