In the early morning hours of August 10, 2008 a fire and explosion occurred in the area of Keele Street and Wilson Avenue in the North central section of the City of Toronto. The concussion from the blast destroyed houses across the street, broke store windows for blocks and shook the Toronto Fire Services communications building some 3.5 km away. This presentation will begin with the initial emergency calls; show the damage caused and progress through clean up activities that lasted some 36 days.
Deputy Chief Lamie began his career as a firefighter with the City of North York in September of 1975. He progressed through the ranks with experience in operations, training, fire prevention, communications and administration. He is now Deputy Fire Chief for Fire Prevention and Public Education for Toronto Fire Services.
