Fire at Listowel Business Claims the Lives of Two Firefighters
Another Firefighter Suffered Minor Injuries

The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) can now confirm that a fire on March 17th has claimed the lives of two volunteer Listowel firefighters. Another firefighter escaped with minor injuries.

Ontario Fire Marshal Ted Wieclawek attended the scene today to survey the damage and offer support and condolences to the local firefighters and community.

Currently OFM investigators and engineers are working with Ontario Provincial Police, Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ministry of Labour on the investigation. Heavy equipment is removing structural beams and debris to assist with the investigation that will focus on the cause, origin and circumstances surrounding the fire. Preventing a similar fire and resulting consequences is a priority for the OFM.
