Update on IFSAC Accreditation

In keeping with its commitment to transition to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Professional Qualifications Standards, the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) is pleased to announce that eleven additional certification programs based on NFPA Professional Qualifications Standards have been accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).  The IFSAC’s team completed its review on May 23, 2014, and subsequently confirmed that, effective June 1, 2014, certification programs based on the standards and levels listed below were accredited:

  • Levels I, II and III, NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, 2009 edition
  • Fire Inspector, Levels I and II, NFPA 1031, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner, 2009 edition
  • Fire and Life Safety Educator, Levels I and II, NFPA 1035, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire and Life Safety Educator, Public Information Officer, and Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist, 2010 edition
  • Public Information Officer, NFPA 1035, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire and Life Safety Educator, Public Information Officer, and Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist, 2010 edition
  • Levels I and II, NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, 2012 edition
  • NFPA 1407, Standard for Training Fire Service Rapid Intervention Crews, 2010 edition

The OFMEM is pleased to be the first organization to have its NFPA 1407 certification program accredited by the IFSAC.
