Firefighter Testing Information

Employed Firefighters

Firefighters are eligible to write Firefighter tests when they meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of theory
  • Completion of skills
  • Written verification from the Fire Department
  • Registration for a scheduled testing session

Do Firefighters have to take all of the tests in one day?

Tests may be written at the same session, or at different times. Passing results for Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Operations are all needed in order to receive Firefighter Level II. However, candidates who pass Hazardous Materials Awareness and Hazardous Materials Operations will receive relevant certification.

Candidates for Firefighter Level II will additionally write a test for Level II. Topics for each test will follow the NFPA standard and will be provided upon request. For further information contact OFMTestingandCertification@ontario.ca
