Firefighter Testing Information

Students enrolled in Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training programs are eligible for testing after completing all graduation requirements. They are encouraged to attend the testing session organized by their college. When that is not possible they may contact OFMTestingandCertification@ontario.ca to be scheduled.

Receiving Test Results

Pre-Service test takers receive their results at the addresses provided to us approximately twelve weeks after the test date. A pass or satisfactory status is based on 70% or greater and there are provisions for re-writing the test if needed. Exact number and/or letter grades are not used. Test takers are responsible for informing appropriate people of their test results.

Candidates who pass Hazardous Materials Awareness will receive:

  1. NFPA 472 Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents, Chapter 4: Competencies for Awareness Level Personnel

Candidates who pass Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations will receive:

  1. NFPA 472 Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents, Chapter 4: Competencies for Awareness Level Personnel
  2. NFPA 472 Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents, Chapter 5: Competencies for Operational Level Responders, Chapter 6: Competencies for Operations Level Responders Assigned Mission-Specific Responsibilities - 6.2 Personal Protective Equipment, 6.6 Product Control

Candidates who pass the above plus NFPA 1001 Firefighter I will receive:

  1. NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications Level I

Candidates who pass the above plus NFPA 1001 Firefighter II will receive:

  1. NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications Level II
