The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is notifying the public about electrical
safety issues associated with a non-certified Infrared Saunas sold at various
retail outlets across Ontario.
These Saunas have not been tested by a recognized certification or field
evaluation agency and do not bear a certification or field evaluation mark.
ESA has received a report of a heater running very hot and smoking in one of
these devices.
Our investigation identified potential electric shock and fire hazards
associated with the use of these saunas, and they include:
The Electrical Safety Authority strongly advises against purchasing one of
these unapproved saunas, and to stop using it and unplug it immediately if one
has already been purchased.

Open wiring and open connections occur when the unit is field assembled.

Metal cover plates are not bonded. Plate temperature exceeds the standard
requirements.

Unapproved heater failure. Fine heater wire can short to non-bonded metal cover
plates exposing the user to fire and shock hazards.
