


This one-day course is a companion to the Pyrotechnics Special Effects Manual and serves to promote the safe use of all pyrotechnics and special-purpose effects used in the entertainment, performing arts, television and film industries. Successful completion of the course is a prerequisite for entry into the field as an Assistant pyrotechnician.

Unless otherwise stated, all courses begin at 8:30am and finish at approximately 4:00pm with the usual refreshment and lunch breaks. Coffee and light snacks will be available at the morning break but attendees are responsible for their lunches. In some locations, lunch will available for purchase.
Registration is now required prior to attending the Pyrotechnics Special Effects course anywhere in the country. Persons wishing to attend the course must complete the enrollment form (http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/mms/explosif/edu/edu_pyroA_e.htm) and return it along with two (2) photos (no larger than 4.5 cm x 5.7 cm) and the required fee of $100 (certified cheque or money order payable to the Receiver General for Canada – Please note we will NOT accept Cash or Personal Cheques).
Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) - Members of the public services who are responsible for the authorization and support of pyrotechnic events, such as fire prevention officers, firefighters, and other members of agencies responsible for the carrying out of pyrotechnic events, can attend the course free of charge. AHJs wishing to attend the course must complete the enrollment form (http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/mms/explosif/edu/edu_pyroA_e.htm) and return it along with two (2) photos (no larger than 4.5 cm x 5.7 cm) and a letter confirming their status as an AHJ and they will be issued an attendance certificate upon completion of the course. Those members wishing to engage in the production of events as a Pyrotechnician must meet the requirements of other applicants and go through the stage of Assistant.
