Unsafe campfires and careless burning of brush or grass
continue to be the leading causes of human caused forest fires. Wildfire
Prevention Week occurs during the week of April 15 to 21, 2007, and provides an
opportunity for fire departments to focus public education efforts on the
prevention of these devastating wildfires.
Fire departments are encouraged to organize and participate in educational
activities to raise public awareness about the potential risks and hazards
associated with wildfires. By providing information to the public, the fire
service can help to mitigate these risks and keep all communities safer from the
devastating effects of wildland fires.
The following educational materials can assist fire departments in raising
public awareness not only during Wildfire Prevention Week, but also throughout
the entire wildfire season.
