COMPARISON OF PRE-SERVICE FIREFIGHTER EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM TO OTHER SELECTED TRAINING PROGRAMS
Recently, the OFM completed a comparison of other selected accredited firefighting
programs offered throughout Canada and the United States. This comparison looked
at both skills training as well as theory requirements of the various programs.
This evaluation was conducted at the request of the endorsed colleges that provide
the Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training Certificate
Program. As well as being an extremely beneficial guide for use by the endorsed
colleges, this comparison may also be an extremely valuable aid for municipalities
to assist them in their recruiting process.
These accredited programs have
been evaluated against the Pre-Service Firefighter Education
and Training Certificate Program and found to be deficient in one or more
areas. In order to receive the Pre-Service Firefighter Education
and Training Program Certificate, the candidate would need to complete satisfactorily
those deficiencies noted. Colleges will verify validity of the credentials through
an official transcript.
The attached list clearly indicates the final summary
of the comparisons for each program.
