Fire Marshal of Ontario

Pat Burke became the Fire Marshal of Ontario on December 1, 2006. His career in community safety spans well over 30 years.

Pat Burke was appointed fire chief of Niagara Falls in 2002. He coordinated all activities of the fire services including fire fighting, fire prevention, communications and training.

Mr. Burke joined the Windsor Fire Department in January 1968 where he worked his way up through the ranks as a firefighter, lieutenant and acting captain and was promoted to deputy fire chief in 1994. From 1994 to 2002, Mr. Burke served as the deputy fire chief of the Windsor Fire Department.

From 1986 through 1990, while still a full-time firefighter, Pat Burke pursued a law degree at the University of Windsor and was called to the bar in 1992. He served as a barrister and solicitor with the firm of Vucinic Dobrowolski until 1993.

Pat Burke is also the president of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs. As president, Burke works with fire chiefs from across Canada to reduce the loss of life and property from fire.

During his career, Mr. Burke has served as a director with Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System Board, member of the Urban Fire Services Committee of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs and a member of the Provincial Emergency Management Advisory Committee.

In addition to his law degree, Burke also has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Windsor and a diploma in Labour Studies from the Labour College of Canada at the University of Montreal.
