Opinions and Applications for the Fire Code (1997 edition) (revoked November 21, 2007)

These opinions contain selected technical information that has been developed to assist fire department officials, building owners, architects and other code users to acquire a better understanding of the requirements set out in the Fire Code. It should also provide assistance in achieving more consistent application of the regulations.

Changes occur in technology and practices much more frequently than revisions to the Fire Code. In order to accommodate some of these changes that may not be specifically addressed by the regulations, guidance is constantly being sought by the code user. This process may result in periodic updates to this package.

These opinions are structured such that the first section contains a reproduction of the requirement of the Article as it appears in the Fire Code. This is followed by a commentary. Where appropriate, other resources that may assist the user to obtain additional information on the subject matter are also identified. The final section contains selected questions and answers that clarify how compliance could be achieved under various real life scenarios.

Please be advised that the Chief Fire Official has the authority to enforce the Fire Code within his or her jurisdiction. This official should be contacted prior to implementing any provision suggested in an opinion.
